Why this works
A four hour mix is sequenced in waves rather than shuffled. Each wave rises through cumbia into salsa, peaks with merengue or mambo, then descends through bachata into something slower before the next wave starts. Three or four waves fill the running time.
Because of that structure it rewards being started at the beginning. The opening block is deliberately the least demanding part of the set, which is exactly what a room that is still filling needs.
